Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme now hosted by Katy over a A Few More Pages. It was first stared by Becky at Page Turners and inspired by Rose City Reader.
How to participate: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading on your blog or in the comments. Include the title and the author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you like, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line, and let us kow why you did or did not like the sentence. Link up over at Katy's page every Friday.
Here is mine from Death by Water by Kerry Greenwood:
Phryne Fisher was trying to read Chaucer. She like Middle English for a certain mood. It had a cryptic crossword difficulty which usually absorbed the attention.
It's kind of hard to give my first impressions. I'm so well acqainted with Phryn Fisher and this series by Kerry Greenwood, that reading these books feels like slipping into something comfortable. For someone who isn't familiar with the series, but who knows that these are detective novels with a fashionable, beautiful, active young woman as the star, it may be a surprise to find her reading Chaucer on the very first page. For those of us who know Phryne, it just shows us again how diverse and intelligent. she is.

That is a unique beginning, and I like the idea of reading books that feel "like slipping into something comfortable."
Thanks for visiting my blog.
That is an interesting opening. I have never thought of Chaucer as a puzzle. I hope you enjoy the book.
