Book Beginnings on Friday is a bookish meme sponsored by Katy at A Few More Pages. Here's what you do: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading on your blog or in the comments section. Include the title and author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you are so moved, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line and if you did or did not like that sentence. Link up each week at Katy's place.
Here's mine from "The Image in the Mirror" the first short story in Hangman's Holiday by Dorothy L Sayers:
The little man with the cow-lick seemed so absorbed in the book that Wimsey had not the heart to claim his property, but, drawing up the other arm-chair and placing his drink within easy read, did his best to entertain himself with the Dunlop Book, which graced, as usual, one of the tables in the lounge.
The Friday 56 is a bookish meme sponsored by Freda's Voice. It is really easy to participate. Just grab a book, any book, and turn to page 56. Find a sentence that grabs you and post it.
Here's mine from "The Strange Elopement of Lord Peter Wimsey" the second short story in Hangman's Holiday by Dorothy L Sayers:
The final touch was put to the terrors of the evening by a demonstration of the ghastly effects of a sodium flame--which lends a very corpse-like aspect to the human countenance, particularly in a lonely cottage on a dark night, and accompanied by the incantations and the "Danse Macabre" of Saint-Saens.

Oh, I like them both! The p. 56 is spooky and very appropriate for the season!
Thanks for visiting my blog.
I really like the book quotes, very descriptive!
Hi Bev,
Wow! That's the third classic author to surface so far this week, there must be something in the air.
I love Dorothy Sayers books and the character of Lord Peter Wimsey, so I would carry on reading no matter what the opening lines of the book were.
I also always watch any films or television adaptations which are screened, so your are rather preaching to the converted.
Great choice for the post.
Have a fantastic weekend.
Yvonne
Both quotes are great but I really like the second one. Maybe it's because it's so close to Halloween and I'm in the mood for something spooky.
Happy Weekend!
Great quotes! And the Danse Macabre has always intrigued me!
Here's my 56:

Found you thru The friday 56. I think I might like "the Image in the Mirror"
@Abby: It is a good one.
