Book Beginnings on Friday
is a bookish meme now
sponsored by Rose City Reader (who originally inspired the meme).
Here's what you do: Share the first line
(or two) of the book you are currently
reading on your blog or in the comments
section. Include the title and author so
we know what you're reading. Then, if you
are so moved, let us know what your
first impressions were based on that first line
and if you did or did not like that sentence. Link up each week
at Gilion's place.
Here's mine from Timeless by Gail Carriger:
Here's mine from Timeless by Gail Carriger:
"I said no such thing," grumbled Lord Maccon, allowing himself, begrudgingly, to be trussed in a new evening jacket. He twisted his head around, annoyed by the height of the collar and the tightness of the cravat. Floote patiently waited for him to stop twitching before continuing with the jacket. Werewolf, or not, Lord Maccon would look his best or Floote's given name wasn't Algernon--which it was.
{I just had to give the entire first paragraph for full flavor.}

The countess grinned suddenly. "Difficult is she, the soul-stealer?"

I love Timeless. Gail Carriger has a marvelous way with words and world-building. I can't wait to read her first YA book this fall. Happy reading!
I feel the same way when I have to dress up fancy, too. Thanks for visiting!
I still have to start this series!
This one does sound tempting! Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
Floote reminds me of Jeeves! Right Ho!
Werewolves have to look good too I suppose.
...I can't decide if 'soul-stealer' is supposed to be a witty insult or a factual description. Maybe both.
Sounds like a fun read.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
I concur with Amber on the 56.

I loved Timeless. In fact I loved the entire series. Thanks for visiting.
VERY intriguing. thought it would just be historical fiction ... until it said that Lord Maccon is a werewolf!
Very interesting. My husband read the first book in the series, Soulless, and he did not like it. And I see that you did. Maybe I should give it a try. If I could ever fit it in to my long list of TBR books.
