The 1944 Club

Simon over at Stuck in a Book is giving us a "quick warning to get those 1944 books off your shelves." Because starting next Monday, he and Karen are kicking off their biannual reading challenge where they ask everybody across the blogosphere to grab one or more books published in the same year.

This fall, it’s 1944 – our first wartime year – and they're hoping we'll build up an interesting picture of 1944.

Any sort of book is welcome – novel, non-fiction, short stories, poetry – and any country or language, so long as it was first published in 1944!

I've got quite a collection of 1944 books hanging out on my TBR stacks, so we'll have to see what grabs my fancy. Here's the list of possibilities:

The Amethyst Spectacles by Frances Crane
The Opening Door by Helen Reilly
Arrow Pointing Nowhere by Elizabeth Daly
Dark Street Murders by Peter Cheyney
Pattern for Murder by Ione Sandberg Shriber
Friday’s Child by Georgette Heyer
