Friday Memes

Book Beginnings on Friday is a bookish meme sponsored by Katy at A Few More Pages. Here's what you do: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading on your blog or in the comments section. Include the title and author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you are so moved, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line and if you did or did not like that sentence. Link up each week at Katy's place.

Here's mine from The Secret of Lost Things by Sheridan Hay:

I was born before this story starts, before I dreamed of such a place as the Arcade, before I imagined men like Walter Geist existed outside fables, outside fairy tales.

The Friday 56 is a bookish meme sponsored by Freda's Voice. It is really easy to participate.

*Grab a book, any book.

*Turn to page 56.

*Find any sentence that grabs you.

*Post it.

*Link up at Freda's site.

Here's mine from
The Secret of Lost Things by Sheridan Hay:

He challenged me with auburn eyebrows raised, conventionally attractive and confident of the fact.

I'm astonished to see how good the first lines of books are. I'd never noticed this until I participated in this meme.

Hi Bev,

I love your page 56 lines, but at first I wasn't too sure about your first lines.

I am not sure that they would have made me want to carry on reading, as I assumed that you were reading fantasy book, which I am not partial too.

Good job I looked up the synopsis, isn't it? Not what I had expected, but I am already hooked and have added this one to my reading list.

Thanks for sharing such a great book.

Yvonne

I like the beginning but not 56 line... probably just me. I feel like it doesn't tell enough to make me interested.
