Book Blogger Hop

Since it's (almost) Friday again that mean's it's time for the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Crazy-For-Books. It's a time to talk about blogging and book topics and to venture out on the internet and visit other blogs. Visit the link to join in.

This week's question: What are your feelings on losing followers? Have you ever stopped following a blog?

As far as losing followers goes, of course I'd rather not lose anyone. I'd like all of my followers to be interested in what I'm doing and stick around and comment. Realistically, I know how hard it is to keep up with all the blogs I follow and it may be that a follower finds that s/he just can't keep coming back and might as well stop following or maybe I'm just not doing the kind of reviews and posts that they expected when they started. And...I tell myself that I didn't start blogging for followers. I started my blog as a kind of reading journal for me. I'm keeping much better track of my reading--not by the numbers or lists, I've always done that, but in writing up my reviews I keep track of my thoughts. That's important to me. If it happens to be important to other people who want to follow me, then that's a delightful bonus.

For part two of the question: Yes, I've stopped following a few here and there. So far I've only dropped blogs where the blogger has stopped posting altogether or who disappears for long (unannounced) periods of time. I'm due for a clean-up, though. I know I have some that I just don't follow like I should and I ought to clear out. It's not fair to the blog owner if I'm not going to be involved.

Which leads to the last part of this week's hop...Jennifer has a challenge for us. She says: "This challenge will take some dedication on your part this week. I want you to find ONE blog in the Hop list that you genuinely WANT to follow (try to find a new blog, if you can!) and make at least 5 comments on their blog this week on 5 different posts. Get to know this blogger and what they post about. Next week, as part of your Hop post, I want you to post about your experience with this challenge. Just tell us what you thought of the challenge, who you found to follow and link to the posts that you commented on I hope you will participate and help us all to build our community! Let's dig a little deeper and get to know each other! Remember, the point is to be genuine! Not to follow for the sake of following! Because, if you are genuine, you are much more likely to get people to follow you back. Trust me on this."

I agree with you -- if a blogger hasn't announced where they've been and it's been four months or something like that, I may need to move on. I hate that feeling, though, you know? Here's my Hop: Coffee and a Book Chick -- Blog Hop...

It's an interesting challenge because while I read a lot, I don't always comment! Sometimes it's time and I'm just reading and catching up, sometimes what I wanted to say has already been said, etc. I really need to try and comment more!

like you, I didn't really do this just to gain a following. I did it to keep track of reading and well, I like to look back on past posts and read what I've read :) it's certainly interesting doing that. I feel the same way as you, if I'm being followed. Great! I'd probably go back and comment on some of their posts in return.

hi from the Hop btw.

Hopping by to say hi...have a great weekend!!

I think the best blogs are ones where the person writes for themselves. There is no desperate "please follow me" feeling behind the posts, which makes them that much stronger.

Hi,
Just hopping by. I think if it becomes about the numbers it's no longer about the reading so your perspective is great :)
