Murder Every Monday: Rank & File

Kate at Cross Examining Crime hosts a fun mystery cover game on Instagram called Murder Every Monday. Our assignment, should we choose to accept it, is to display book covers and titles from books you own that meet prompts which she posts well in advance (see link).

Today's theme is covers with a military rank in the title.

Case for Sergeant Beef ~Leo Bruce
The Methods of Sergeant Cluff ~Gil North
The Hanging Captain ~Henry Wade

Captain Nash & the Honour of England ~Ragan Butler
Lieutenant Pascal's Tastes in Homicides ~Hugh Pentecost
The Floating Admiral ~The Detection Club (Christie, Sayers, Chesterton, et al.)

The Case of Colonel Marchand ~E. C. R. Lorac
A Checkmate by the Colonel ~George Griswold

  1. Wow - *someone* had a very good Christmas! Now you have more than enough titles to jump afresh into the 2025 challenges! I had some *very* interesting things show up under the tree (wish we could post pics as comments)...
    1. "Classic American Crime Fiction of the 1920's" annotated by Leslie S. Klinger, new, an 1124 page monster weighing in at over five pounds,
    2. Six volume set of Leslie Ford 1942 uniform binding Collier reprints, in garish hunter-safety orange with dark blue accents including moon, stars, dagger, bell-pull rope, mask, and something that looks like an apple core (eye-popping 'shelf presence' on this set)
    3. Black Cat Mystery Magazine #15, November 2024 (how did I not know this magazine even exists? And where are #1-14?)

  2. Yeah--my Santas spoil me rotten. :-) I've heard of Black Cat Mystery Magazine but never found one.

Sorry folks, but I have been getting an incredible amount of spam. I have adjusted my settings and all messages will be moderated from now on. If that does not take care of the problem then I will have to go to the "Prove You're Not a Robot" thing--which I hate as much as you do.

If your name does not appear automatically, please tell me your name in the comment. Otherwise you will just show up as "Unknown." Thanks!
