Here's mine from The Distant Hours by Kate Morton:
First lines (before the first chapter): Hush...Can you hear him? The trees can. They are the first to know he is coming.

Oooohhhh...this sounds really good. I haven't read gothic fiction in a long time. It used to be my favorite genre. I still love suspense and thrillers. I never read this author before. I'll have to see if my library has it. Thanks for participating!
