Followers By Email!

Bad News Alert! Blogger has notified us that it will no longer support Feedburner (which facilitates the "Follow by Email" function on the blog) after July of this year. I have downloaded the subscriber list and will investigate what I can do about this--but please know that I have very little in the way of real tech skills and may be unsuccessful. If anyone out there in Blogger-land comes up with a spiffy way to keep email updates going out to followers and would share with me (phryne1969 AT gmail DOT com) I would be so very appreciative. Likewise, if I find a good solution, I'll broadcast the news.

Why do "they" always have to change things?!

  1. Hmmm... I didn't get any notice and I have followers-by-email as well. So if/when this happens, the only way followers can follow you any more would be by logging in to Blogger and using the Design/Reading List? Since at the moment followers need not have blogger accounts to read your posts, could this be a scheme to get more people logging in?

  2. "...could this be a scheme to get more people logging in?"

Possibly. I just know it's darn inconvenient. I currently have a list of about 1500 people signed up for Follow by Email. I don't think those who are not on Blogger are going to want to have to log in to Blogger.

The notice appears on the page where I manage my posts here on Blogger.

  3. Bev, here's who I'm going with https://www.sendinblue.com/

Free plan is unlimited contacts and you can send up to 300 emails per day. In this article, they walk you through how to "Share your blog posts to your clients using our RSS campaign integration." https://help.sendinblue.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013130059-Share-your-blog-posts-to-your-clients-using-our-RSS-campaign-integration

Basically, you plug your RSS feed when you create a campaign and each time you publish a post, it sends an email to your list. That was how I did email subscription with True Book Addict through Mailchimp. I'm going to move everything over to Send in Blue, but I'm not going to start until May. April is too busy. lol

If you have any questions, I'll try to help, if I can. :)

  4. Thanks, Michelle! I'll have to investigate--April is also pretty busy for me. May can also be busy--but hopefully not too bad.

  5. You're welcome! Well, we do have until July, but I want to get it done as soon as I can...after I file my taxes. lol

  6. I saw that. Google is notorious for their fickleness about effing up or eliminating anything remotely useful, example, their RSS reader. I am not tech savvy either, so looking for ideas too. I will check what others have suggested here so far.

They did send an email if you have Gmail and use Blogger, and I also saw the notice on the blog, although I first learned about it via one of the tech news sources I follow (on an RSS reader, btw).

  7. Just got the notice from Blogger. Guess I will just delete my "follow by email" widget. Meanwhile, Chrome is telling me I need to update it. But I cannot because the computer's OS is too old. So I need to update the OS. But I cannot because my internet connection is too slow. Sigh. "They" are at it again with their eternal "upgrades" to our computing experience.

Sorry folks, but I have been getting an incredible amount of spam. I have adjusted my settings and all messages will be moderated from now on. If that does not take care of the problem then I will have to go to the "Prove You're Not a Robot" thing--which I hate as much as you do.

If your name does not appear automatically, please tell me your name in the comment. Otherwise you will just show up as "Unknown." Thanks!
