Another R.I.P. Adventure has come to a close. I managed to read 17 books towards the First Peril and four collections for the Short Story Peril. I also read one the of creepiest books of recent memory: Beyond the Ice Limit by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. Thanks again to Carl for hosting--and encouraging me to go out of my comfort zone for some perilous reading. See you all next year!
From our R. (eaders) I. (mbibing) P. (eril) host:
By the pricking of my thumbs,To be up front, there will be no thumb-pricking here.
Something wicked[ly fun] this way comes! ~Shakespeare, the play that shall not be named, slightly edited
After all, one might get blood on one’s books!
Well, the year has gone and done it again. Winter gave way to Spring, Summer came blazing in, and here before we know it Autumn will officially take the reins. Every year when September arrives I feel a lightening in my spirit, knowing that the constricting heat and humidity of the Midwest summer will soon give way to my favorite season of the year.
Orange will become a predominant color, and pumpkin-flavoring will invade every drink and dessert that we love to imbibe.
Speaking of imbibing, eleven years ago I embarked on a quest to bring a community of readers together to enjoy the literature most associated with the darkening days and cooling temperatures of Autumn.
The goals remain the same:
From September 1st through October 31st, we will be reading and/or watching all things Gothic, spooky and mysterious. Categories that may be included are Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Dark Fantasy, Gothic, Horror, Supernatural or other closely-related fields. As always, there are various levels of participation, including an added level for gameplayers. For the full details or to join in, please hop on the link to the R. I. P. XI Event and check it out.
There are only two expectations if you want to participate with us:
1. Have fun reading (and watching*).
2. Share that fun with others.
Reviews, while not required, may be posted HERE.
I will be starting with my standard:
Peril the First: Read at least four books, any length, that you feel fit (the very broad definitions) of R.I.P. literature. It could be King or Conan Doyle, Penny or Poe, Chandler or Collins, Lovecraft or Leroux…or anyone in between.

ReplyDeleteGlad you are along for the peril! And one down already, NICE! Thank you so much for joining us.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cath! Good luck to you too!
ReplyDeleteAnd, Carl, I'm normally a weenie when it comes to spooky--your "Event" allows me to wade in at the shallow end and still participate. So, thanks for hosting again!
