I'm pleased to have a bingo in February! I describe it thoroughly at my blog. I'd like to know if S3 may read "a mystery other than crime/murder" rather than "a crime other than murder." In that case it limits to always being a crime but not other adventures.

ReplyDeleteCarolyn: I think the square is pretty straight-forward. It reads as I intend it to read: a CRIME other than murder...I've pretty much said that the books for my challenge must be primarily categorized under Mystery and I've explained what that means for this challenge, Not adventure/
ReplyDeleteexploring/or mystical what-have-you. I don't think I've been vague in my description of what qualifies. And I don't intend "mystery" to be stretched to fit whatever book someone wants to read.
Barb: never a stretch for material to fit. Mysteries have always been the primary novel I read. I asked about your square to ensure I understood your preference. Crime is one type of mystery. There are many others, yes indeed in the chief mystery-solving, investigating genre. I noticed doubt about me arose after I asked about M.R. James and would love to clear it up. I asked if a volume counted, not out of need to know what a mystery entailed. Simply: you had read him and I hadn't. I didn't know if my book was plain ghost stories or an investigation of a mystery.
ReplyDeleteIf we lay to rest any thought that I misunderstand my beloved genre, my question really is just: "Can S3 be generalized as mystery other than a murder"? You are deliberate so I got my answer out of that mix. ;) Many people, calling 'crime novel' a synonym for 'mystery novel', might mean to be general. This is me being fastidious about a game creator's intent, with no other intent than to respect it. On another page, I double-checked 'midnight' for blue; scout's honour.

ReplyDeleteWhen we make other lines, does that mean five books touching spaces already filled? If we are meant to repeat squares for a required six, I guess it would be better to focus on filling the rest of the sheet. I'm uncertain how you worked it and am one to pose questions in clarification.
I am sorry, Carolyn, but I don't know if I understand your question. You do not have to repeat squares. Once a square is filled--it's done. As you fill in other squares and make six in a row (using newly filled in squares and/or already filled in squares)--you can claim more Bingos; or a completely covered card, if you manage to do so.

ReplyDeleteBingo! I completed the top row of the Golden Age card. I probably won't read any more vintage mysteries this year, sadly, but that just means a bigger stockpile for next year! :)

ReplyDeleteI've just finished my first book on the GOLDEN card, the one involving the clergy, George Bellairs 'Death treads softly' (the archdeacon helped solve the murder). I really enjoyed it, especially the Isle of Man setting.
