Book Bonaza

I own this t-shirt, but I do not own the rights to this image.  That belongs to Edward Gorey.

Yesterday the Hubby & I went to the annual Historical Society Museum Garage Sale.  They hold this in a huge warehouse and have several tables of books (along with all the other stuff that I totally pass by in my book-homing-pigeon-like state).  It's not quite as big a deal as the Red Cross Book Sale in the Fall--but for a spring book fling, it'll do.  Bottom line: I came away with 13 books including 3 of the little pocket-size books that I love and The Penguin Pool Murder by Stuart Palmer which I've been wanting to get my hands on for a long time. Here's the total haul--I wish I could say these were all vintage, hardback, first editions....but I'll take what I can find.

Dead Mr. Mozart by Bernard Bastable [aka Robert Barnard] (hardback, 1st US edition)
To Die Like a Gentleman by Bernard Bastable (hardback, 1st US edition)
Some Buried Caesar by Nero Wolfe (Pyramid paperback reprint)
The Penguin Pool Murder by Stuart Palmer (Bantam paperback reprint)
Pass the Gravy by A. A. Fair [aka Erle Stanley Gardner] (Pocktbook, pocket size edition!)
Into the Valley by John Hersey (WWII pocket size edition!)
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain (Washington Square pocket edition!)
The Sirens Sang of Murder by Sarah Caudwell (cover art by Edward Gorey)
The Suicide Murders by Howard Engel
Appleby's Other Story by Michael Innes (Penguin paperback reprint)
Death on a Quiet Day by Michael Innes (Perennial paperback reprint)
The Mysterious Commission by Michael Innes (Penguin paperback reprint)
The Journeying Boy by Michael Innes (Perennial paperback reprint)

  1. What a haul, Bev! I hope you're going to review all the Innes books. Sarah Caudwell is a favorite of mine. Too bad she died so young.

  2. I have a small mountain of just Michael Innes in my TBR mountain range. I may just have to set up a Michael Innes Reading Challenge just to get that stack whittled down.

I read Caudwell's The Shortest Way to Hades last year and really enjoyed it, so I couldn't resist this one when I found it.

  4. Nice haul. I only read Twain's book (and will read it again as an adult) but glad you are happy.
