Challenge Complete: European Reading Challenge

TAKE THE GRAND TOUR

For one of my many challenges this year, I decided to join Rose City Reader in the European Reading Challenge – where participants tour Europe through books. And win prizes.

The gist: The idea is to read books by European authors or books set in European countries (no matter where the author comes from). The books can be anything – novels, short stories, memoirs, travel guides, cookbooks, biography, poetry, or any other genre. You can participate at different levels, but each book must be by a different author and set in a different country – it's supposed to be a tour.

There are various participation levels and prizes for the levels. Reviews are not required, but if you want to be eligible for prizes then you must post reviews for the books you read. And I commited to:

Five Star (Deluxe Entourage): Read at least five books by different European authors or books set in different European countries.

1. The Doctor Dines in Prague by Robin Hathaway (set in Czech Republic) [3/12/12]
2. Morgue Drawer Four by Jutta Profijt; trans. by Erik J. Macki (German author/set in Germany) [4/7/12]
3. Imagined London: A Tour of the World's Greatest Fictional City by Anna Quindlen (2/10/12)
4. Casino Royale by Ian Fleming (Royale-les-Eaux, France) [3/3/12]
5. The Rose Window & Other Verse from New Poems by Rainer Maria Rilke (born in Prague; died in Switzerland; poems originally written in German) [3/22/12]

Commitment Complete 4/7/12--but still reading!

6. File No. 113 by Emile Gaboriau (French author/set in France) [7/11/12]
7. The Fire Engine that Disappeared by Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö (Sweden) [4/9/12]
8. DeKok & Murder on the Menu by A. C. Baantjer  (Holland) [7/13/12]
9. Lake of Sorrows by Erin Hart (Ireland) [10/14/12]
10. The Foods of North Italy by Luigi Veronelle (Italy) [10/27/12]

  1. Wow! I didn't realize that you finished so early! Thanks for linking your post on the Wrap Up page.

I'm still working on the Vintage Mystery challenge. I have finished or am close with the women authors, but have a ways to go on the men.

Sorry folks, but I have been getting an incredible amount of spam. I have adjusted my settings and all messages will be moderated from now on. If that does not take care of the problem then I will have to go to the "Prove You're Not a Robot" thing--which I hate as much as you do.

If your name does not appear automatically, please tell me your name in the comment. Otherwise you will just show up as "Unknown." Thanks!
