Friday Memes
Book Beginnings on Friday is a bookish meme sponsored by Katy at A Few More Pages. Here's what you do: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading on your blog or in the comments section. Include the title and author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you are so moved, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line and if you did or did not like that sentence. Link up each week at Katy's place.
Here's mine from Hare Sitting Up by Michael Innes:
Juniper had been to Oxford to attend a conference of headmasters of preparatory schools. It was the middle of the long vacation, and he hadn't expected to see many undergraduates. But now, just as his train was about to move out of the station, half-a-dozen of them tumbled into his compartment.
The Friday 56 is a bookishmeme sponsored by Freda's Voice. It is really easy to participate. Just grab a book, any book, and turn to page 56. Find a sentence that grabs you and post it. Here's mine from Hare Sitting Up by Michael Innes:
Unconscious hostility is a queer notion to take up--having landed ourselves with the fantastic situation we have.
Don't you just want to know what the fantastic situation is?
Sorry folks, but I have been getting an incredible amount of spam. I have adjusted my settings and all messages will be moderated from now on. If that does not take care of the problem then I will have to go to the "Prove You're Not a Robot" thing--which I hate as much as you do.
If your name does not appear automatically, please tell me your name in the comment. Otherwise you will just show up as "Unknown." Thanks!
Very cool 56! Has me thinking so many different things. And yes, I do just wanna know!
ReplyDeleteThose two snippets really made me curious.
