Mystery Lover...but overall a very eclectic reader. Will read everything from the classics to historical fiction. Biography to essays. Not into horror or much into YA. If you would like me to review a book, then please see my stated review policy BEFORE emailing me.

Friday Memes
Book Beginnings on Friday is a bookish meme sponsored by Katy at A Few More Pages. Here's what you do: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading on your blog or in the comments section. Include the title and author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you are so moved, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line and if you did or did not like that sentence. Link up each week at Katy's place.
Here's mine from Murder on Theatre Row by Michael Jahn:
Teddy Roosevelt was President and preparing to dig the Panama Canal in 1903 when the thirty-inch water main was laid down below Forty-second Street in New York City.... And on one frosty Monday night, the fourth of December ninety-plus years later, Bill Donovan, newly appointed captain in the New York Police Department, was riding the subway home from his office at One Police Plaza when the water main--untended lo those many years--burst.
The Friday 56 is a bookishmeme sponsored by Freda's Voice. It is really easy to participate. Just grab a book, any book, and turn to page 56. Find a sentence that grabs you and post it. Freda is taking some time off for the holidays, but I wanted to go ahead and share a tidbit anyway. Here it is from Murder on Theatre Row by Michael Jahn:
"I need carte blanche to go anywhere, at any time--even on stage if it comes to that--for me and my assistant, Sergeant Moskowitz."
"Feel free to sing a duet with Elena if it so moves you," Holland replied.
Sorry folks, but I have been getting an incredible amount of spam. I have adjusted my settings and all messages will be moderated from now on. If that does not take care of the problem then I will have to go to the "Prove You're Not a Robot" thing--which I hate as much as you do.
If your name does not appear automatically, please tell me your name in the comment. Otherwise you will just show up as "Unknown." Thanks!
I hope Elena is singing Christmas carols. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for continuing to post.
Merry CHRISTmas and Happy 2012!
Glad you had time to post. I loved the sound of the book.
ReplyDeleteI can't help but be charmed by a book that mentions Teddy Roosevelt in the first line. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in Book Beginnings!
