Mystery Lover...but overall a very eclectic reader. Will read everything from the classics to historical fiction. Biography to essays. Not into horror or much into YA. If you would like me to review a book, then please see my stated review policy BEFORE emailing me.

Friday Memes
Book Beginnings on Friday is a bookish meme sponsored by Katy at A Few More Pages. Here's what you do: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading on your blog or in the comments section. Include the title and author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you are so moved, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line and if you did or did not like that sentence. Link up each week at Katy's place.
Here's mine from March Violets by Philip Kerr:
This morning, at the corner of Friedrichstrasse and Jagerstrasse, I saw two men, SA men, unscrewing a red Der Sturmer showcase from the wall of a building. Der Sturmer is the anti-Semitic journal that's run by the Reich's leading Jew-baiter, Julius Streicher.
The Friday 56 is a bookishmeme sponsored by Freda's Voice. It is really easy to participate. *Grab a book, any book. *Turn to page 56. *Find any sentence that grabs you. *Post it. *Link up at Freda's site.
Here's mine from March Violets by Philip Kerr:
With a post-mortem following a fire, one always keeps in mind the possibility that there has been an attempt to destroy evidence.
I wasn't too sure about your lines this week and whether they would make me want to carry on reading.
I am not generally overstruck by war books, which is what I assumed it was.
I was intrigued enough however, to take a look at the full synopsis and must admit that my mind was changed immediately, and it is already on my wish list.
So, first lines in this case were not great for me, but they were deceptive, as the book sounds like a riveting read and a great find.
Thanks for bringing this book to my attention and have a great weekend.
Sorry folks, but I have been getting an incredible amount of spam. I have adjusted my settings and all messages will be moderated from now on. If that does not take care of the problem then I will have to go to the "Prove You're Not a Robot" thing--which I hate as much as you do.
If your name does not appear automatically, please tell me your name in the comment. Otherwise you will just show up as "Unknown." Thanks!
Ah, some thrills, some mystery, and wonderful settings.

I wasn't too keen on the beginning, but page 56 made it much more interesting.
ReplyDeleteA Holocaust book, very interesting. I hope it's good
ReplyDeleteYvonne: Yeah, it was the synopsis that grabbed me. I'm not much for hardboiled/noir but this one was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for the visist to my blog!
ReplyDeleteMarch Violets just the kind of thing I would like. Thanks for sharing!
