Since we just celebrated Father's Day, she thought it would be only fair to mention the remarkable men who are or have been part of our lives. This week's theme is Male Person.
Here is mine from The Savage Garden by Mark Mills (p. 6):
"I was just thinking," he lied, "that your narrator's a man. Unless she's a woman who happens to play cricket for the village team."
"So?"
"It's a challenge, I imagine, writing a male narrator."
"You don't think I'm up to it?"
"I didn't say that."
"Four brothers," she said, holding up three fingers.

  3. With four brothers, she's almost an expert!

  4. That's a good one. Living with four brothers would leave her well qualified for the job.

Four brothers but three fingers? I'm clearly missing the punchline. =/

You know what this reminds me of? That scene in the movie As Good as It Gets, in which Jack Nicholson's author character is approached by a fan who wants to know how he writes women so well. He replies: "I think of a man and then take away reason and accountablity." LOL!!!

What's most interesting to me in the Savage Garden excerpt is that the person challenging the writer character is lying. So he's either just teasing or trying to distract the woman.

  8. Actually, she holds up three fingers because they've both been indulging in a bit too much wine....
