Here's what I've got this week from The Wyndham Case by Jill Paton Walsh (p. 34):
Adumbrating (form of adumbrate):1. To give a sketchy outline of.
2. To prefigure indistinctly; foreshadow.
3. To disclose partially or guardedly.
Context:
We must have a care; even joking about a dishonourable manoevre such as we have been adumbrating tonight, leave alone putting into practice, might deter future benefactors.
This is one I knew! Not that one would use it everyday... but nice. I only knew meanings 1 & 2 though. Thanks!
