A Graveyard to Let by Carter Dickson
The Eustace Diamonds by Anthony Trollope
Why Shoot a Butler by Geogette Heyer
Death in the Garden by Elizabeth Ironside
All Booked Up by Terrie Curran
Currently Reading: The Leavenworth Case by Anna Katharine Green. Horatio Leavenworth, a rich merchant and adoptive parent and guardian to his two nieces, Mary and Eleanore, is found shot to death at the table in the library of his home. All the doors are locked and everything points to a member of the household. Evidence--a broken key, an incriminating letter, an overheard bit of conversation--would seem to point towards the nieces. The story is narrated by Everett Raymond, junior member of the law firm which represents the Leavenworth family. Published in 1878, this novel is often considered to be the first full-length detective story written by a woman.
Books that spark my interest:
Lord of Misrule by Jaimy Gordon (STILL impatiently waiting for this one to be available from the library)
Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald: An American Woman's Life by Linda Wagner-Martin OR
Zubin Mehta: the Score of My Life by Zubin Mehta (I am in need of a new "Z" book to replace the Zorro which I could not finish. These two auto/biographies looked like interesting candidates. I may wind up reading both.)
The Girl in the Green Raincoat by Laura Lippman
