A long-lost manuscript from Edgar Allen Poe is discovered triggering four deaths inspired by Poe stories (e.g., Cask of Amontillado, Murders in the Rue Morgue, etc.). While the culprit was a bit obvious half way through the book, I still enjoyed this one and in particular, the melodramatic denouement. Recommended if you come a cross a copy. I would love to give her another try--as soon as I find another of her books.Bev Hankinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01127476456755776574noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5779338627192492408.post-34546390084004289162024-02-10T18:12:10.259-05:002024-02-10T18:12:10.259-05:00My name is Scott for the previous comment. On the positive side the female protagonist, Peter Piper, was engaging and the set up to the mystery was well done.

But unfortunately, (1) A victim shot by a gun hanging on a wall where it was impossible for anyone in the room to have pulled the trigger is a brilliant impossibility. Unfortunately, the resolution of how this was done was silly reminiscent of what the coyote would unsuccessfully do in a Warner Bros. Roadrunner Cartoon. There is just no way that would have worked. (2) Not enough was done with the spooky atmosphere of a house called Ghost's Walk allegedly haunted by a ghost for only all of one year with a cemetery across the street.

As I said, on balance I like this and it was a quick, fun read that at least did not sag in the middle (something that happens far too often in GAD and GAD-style mysteries). I have one other Amelia Reynolds Long title in the big pile, "Death Looks Down" so will give Long another try.Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11945797301621244070noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5779338627192492408.post-70944911112178241102020-05-31T10:09:19.019-04:002020-05-31T10:09:19.019-04:00I have The Corpse in the Quill Club and I believe ...I have The Corpse in the Quill Club and I believe that this book has
the same detectives.
I found it charming but the mystery plot was not outstanding.
Chris WallaceChris Wallacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07988108756268364934noreply@blogger.com
