And it sounds as...Bev - What an interesting choice! And it sounds as though the story was engaging, too. One of the things you mentioned that really caught my attention is the issue of translation. The quality of a translation makes a huge difference, I think, in the reader's enjoyment of the story. That could just be my linguist's brain on "overdrive," but I really think it matters. So your discovery was fortuitous. I sometimes wonder whether our disappointment with translated Japanese/Chinese crime fiction is actually a cultural thing anyway. Their idea of crime fiction is just "different".
